These social dance classes are non-credit and are listed under Community Education Classes.
Ballroom Dance class begins August 26, Seeliger Elementary School, 2800 S Saliman Rd
Class time 7pm to 9pm (16 week semister) $110 per person.
Swing Dance Class begins August 28, Mark Twain Elementary School, 2111 Carriage Crest Dr
Class time 7pm to 9pm (16 week semister) $110 per person.
Classes involve: stretching, warm-up dancing, review, new patterns, class practice time, and nightly home practice.
No partner is needed, rotation of partners is available, and the Buddy system is encouraged for practice during the week.
Comfortable cloths are recommended and Dance shoes will eventually be prefered.
Proper dance shoes are available at Capital Dance Shoope, 111 W Telegraph St, Suite #100 (10% discount is available if you mention Earl's name.
Instructor Earl Case had two left feet when he started dancing at 7-years old with his very patient mother.
He has been dance for dancing for about 20 years with local studios and at BYU Dance Camps where the Nation Ballroom Champions teach in the summer.
Lessons include: Musicality (hearing and feeling the beat), Comfortable dance position, Lead-Follow, Universal Dance Patterns, Frame & Posture, Technique, Styling, and floor craft..
Dance notes are handed out for help during the nightly practice.
There is a review each week and the instructor is willing spend extra time with those willing to practice more or make up any missed lessons.
The most important part of these classes is to learn to have fun dancing and to safely dance in public with confidence. Part of the class practice time will used be to dance to live music in town.
Dancing is encouraged at different Ballroom Studios in the area that have a friendly alcohol and smoke-free environment.
